The Barrel Depot started in 2011 as a side gig, a way to have some extra income. Back in 2011 when the love for wine started to boom a lot of smaller companies were making their own wine, making connections with the owners of the bigger companies and winemakers. I started to realize that the wine barrels were only being used for 5 years and then they would be disposed of. I started to think that those wine barrels could be used for more. So I started to buy some barrels. I would take them home and make them into planters or into furniture. Sometimes I would even sell them whole or I would cut them in half and sell them. After some time went by I started to collect more barrels and decided that we needed to have a storefront. At this point I started to promote the barrels and sell them online. My business started growing more than I expected it to grow in a short period of time. At the beginning I used to transport the barrels in a small pick up truck and as time went on I had to buy a bigger trailer where I could fit more barrels. When the business started we didn’t even have a name for it yet, I was just known as “ the barrel guy”. Now my side gig has turned into a family business and we named it the Barrel Depot.
